The HHS wrestling team battled this past weekend at the Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro in the MPSSAA State Wrestling Tourney….they showed well!

9 Cane wrestlers qualified for the event and all 9 wrestlers wrestled tough with 152 Joshua Stokes and 220 Joseph Bannister-Pesce both wrestling awesome tourneys and making the finals, both finishing 2nd! 182 Dakota Cram and 195 Joseph Murray both fell in the semi-finals but rebounded with wins in the consi-semis and ultimately placed 3rd. 285 Jacob Munoz fell 3-4 in the “blood round”, just one win short of a placement match.

106 Jacob Antonielli, 126 Jackson Cramer, 132 Robert Ireland, and 170 Justin Draper all fell after 2 matches but they fought hard and represented their school with class!

With that, a very long and successful season comes to a close! The HHS Canes wrestled 46 matches this year, with 32 wins. The Canes finished 2nd in the SMAC Duals, 2nd in the SMAC tourney, 10 varsity wrestlers with 25+ wins, 8 with over 30+ wins, 5 with 40+ wins, and 1 with 50+ wins! We again hosted the Region Duals and defeated Oxon Hill and our county foe Northern to earn a trip back to the State Duals. We fell one match short of the finals!

Our JV….when they had the opportunity to wrestle….shone in the efforts with all our JV winning matches and placing in the 2 events they competed.

We will definitely be losing some horses from this year’s squad, just like last season, but we’ll reload for 2019 – 2020! After a break, we’ll be ready to begin again!
