No one thought we’d be a factor! No one thought we had a chance this season! Our Huntingtown Hurricane wrestlers proved them all wrong….except for Coach Fowler, he knew the Canes could compete and make a run! After the slow start to the dual season the Canes were written off, but the ‘Storm’ rose and the team finished 11-3 for the regular season and garnered a 2nd seed in the Region Duals with a chance to make it back to the State tourney.
First up was North Point and the Canes were clicking! After dispatching the Eagles by a score of 55-19, HHS was able to watch the last several matches of the Chesapeake (#1 seed) vs Northern match…Chesapeake won big!
We were ready but the fates weren’t in the Canes favor tonight! HHS fell 12-58 in the finals….the score doesn’t really show just how close the match was! Six of the Canes’ losses were in matches they were winning and controlling and got caught in big moves and lost….it happens…and it happened big! Once the that proverbial stone got rolling, we just couldn’t recover. Kudos to Chesapeake! They had their gym rockin and they capitalized!
Now Huntingtown’s eyes are focused individually to next weekend at La Plata for the SMAC Tourney….the first step to the State Tourney the first weekend in March. We’ll be back in the room Thursday grinding and working to fix what’s needed!
Congratulations boys, you wrestled tough and made Huntingtown proud for your efforts….you wanted more, a higher team finish, but finishing 2nd in the Region was a valiant effort from where we started! Let’s finish up hard and push on through SMAC, Regions, and States!
EVERY PRACTICE, EVERY MATCH, ALWAYS FORWARD!!!!
